Volunteering Opportunities

Turning Compassion into Action

SVdP is a volunteer-based organization focused on person-to-person services. We believe that by volunteering our time, talent and resources we can make a significant differencein the lives of those who are poor and suffering and build healthy, engaged and thriving communities.

More than 1,000 volunteers help us provide services to the needy in Contra Costa County, but we can always use more help. Please consider volunteering your time and services to help others.

Not sure where to start? Call (925) 439-5060 or email info-at-svdp-cc.org.

We welcome applications from volunteers in the following areas:

Thrift Stores

St. Vincent de Paul has two thrift stores, one in Pleasant Hill and the other in Pittsburg. Workers at the stores sort and stock gently used items such as clothes, household goods and furniture. The revenue from these stores pays the salary and costs of entry-level workers learning skills to allow them to participate in the general workplace. The store also is a source of low-cost merchandise for the marginally employed.

Our stores also help our local branches (conferences)by providing free clothes, household goods and furniture to the very needy.

The following areas require volunteers year-round, and accept volunteers for even a few hours per month:

Books: Monday-Saturday, 10:00am-4:00pm.
Bagger: Monday-Saturday, 10:00am-4:00pm.
Sales Assistants: Monday-Saturday, 10:00am-4:00pm.
Decorator: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10:00am-4:00pm.
Linen Clerk: Monday-Saturday, 10:00am-4:00pm.
Stocker: Monday-Saturday, 10:00am-4:00pm.
Sorter: Monday-Saturday, 10:00am-4:00pm.
