The annual Friends of the Poor® Walk to benefit the needy and those living in poverty who are served by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) of Contra Costa County, is scheduled to be held in four different locations across the Contra Costa County this year. The walk is intended to raise awareness of county residents living in poverty, and the St. Vincent de Paul of Contra Costa County programs in place to support assistance for the needy. The county walk has raised over $13,000 for programs that provide basic human services to the needy over the past 5 years.
The local walk benefitting St. Vincent de Paul programs in Contra Costa County is taking place at the following locations:

Concord: St. Agnes Catholic Church, 3966 Chestnut Ave, Concord, CA 94519
Danville: St. Isidore Catholic Church, 440 La Gonda Way, Danville, CA 94526
The U.S. Census Bureau reports that a 46.5 million Americans (about 15 percent of the population) are living in poverty, the largest number ever recorded in our nation’s history, and it’s estimated that more than 20 percent of those are children. The economic downturn has also hit people hard in many areas of West, East and Central Contra Costa County.
*All Friends of the Poor Walk funds remain in Contra Costa County to help the poor via SVdP Programs including food pantries, Free Dining Room, Free Medical Clinic, Free Dental Program, Job Training Program, & Thrift Stores for clothing/furniture.
How to Register: Register for the 5K, (3.1 miles), Contra Costa Walk/Run by going to www.fopwalk.org, and identify walk: “SVdP Contra Costa County”. If you cannot walk yourself, please go on-line and support a walker.
