Even as unemployment numbers appear to improve, many in our community find themselves out of work and without hope of finding employment for various reasons. The Workforce Development Program at St. Vincent de Paul provides training and work experience for those who are new to or have been out of the workforce. The goal of our program is to help participants with barriers to employment find confidence and tools to re-enter the workforce.
The recent graduates of Cycle 8 experienced a 70% job placement rate after completion of the SVdP program. Recent graduate comments include:
Zanetta, (from Pittsburg) – “The program is a good opportunity to take that next step in life. The class instructors were very compassionate and well trained. If you are stuck in a rut, come here.”
Alice, (from Pittsburg)“I would tell those considering the program to give it a chance. I learned everything I need to know about networking, resumes, interviews and self-confidence. I now feel mentally and physically good about myself.”
Selected participants may interview for the 24-week on-the-job training component consisting of paid, part-time on-the-job training at SVdP. Participants are matched with mentors and take weekly classes to continue developing skills necessary for finding and keeping employment.
This event will provide an opportunity to see firsthand the great level of need for employment development in our community and will also provide an opportunity to learn more about SVdP’s Workforce Development Program and how members of the public and local employers can support our program. The SVdP Workforce Development Program is supported by the East Bay Community Foundation, City of Pittsburg-CDBG, Keller Canyon Mitigation Fund, Wells Fargo Foundation, Y&H Soda Foundation, and St. Vincent de Paul National Office “Systemic Change” Program Fund.
